Hugh Hefner joined Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Rita Wilson to help save the well-known Hollywood sign. Hugh donated about $900,000 and it was well worth it!
"My childhood dreams and fantasies came from the movies, and the images created in Hollywood had a major influence on my life and Playboy," he said. "As I've said before, the Hollywood sign is Hollywood's Eiffel Tower and I am pleased to help preserve such an important cultural landmark."
The land was going to be purchased for development, and maybe destroyed, but activists, studios, networks and other organizations donated $12.5 million to the Save the Peak project to purchase the 138 acres and save the sign.
